Mental Health Support Team (MHST) Information

22 Apr 2024 | BY blackshawmoor

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) works with children and young people or their parents/carers when they first start to have difficulties managing their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Some of the things that we support with include low mood, worry, problems with sleeping, parenting support and more. Most of the work that we do uses strategies based on Low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) so we are not school counsellors, the principles are those used for guided self-help. We also do group work in schools on various topics. Most of the work that we do with children under the age of 11 will be parent-led.

If you feel that the MHST might be useful for you or your child, you should discuss this with your Mental Health Lead at your child’s school. This is because there are lots of services who can offer support and your school Mental Health Lead will be familiar with all of them. This means that you will be referred to the best service to meet your/your child’s current need.

Please can you make sure that we are no longer referred to as Trailblazers, we are the MHST, Mental Health Support Team, This helps parents to give feedback about the correct team if and when they need to.

If you need me to add anything to this please let me know. We are currently designing a new logo which means we will be sending out new posters etc but this will most likely be September. I am happy for you to use my photo, again if you need one let me know and I will try and get a good one that you can all use.
